Identity-type-thingy-majig-or-something

I'm doing this on my phone again, so it's pretty plain looking like the last entry. Anyway, as I mentioned in one of my previous free writes, I've noticed that my perceptions of the world around me are built on the idea of my displeasures. My opinions are often based on "I hate it, it doesn't interest me, I don't care about it," or "I love it, I want to know all about it." In order for me to love something, I've noticed that my first question to ask myself is always, "Does this suck? Do I really dislike it?" This is why drives my perception of the world around me. I imagine people can get very mixed signals from me. I look very depressing, I wear my pants low so people probably think I'm overly headstrong and unintelligent. People have often told me I look like a drug dealer or at the very least, an addict. The observations I can make by this are interesting though as it shows I'm difficult to read. I'm not only against drugs strongly, I don't drink. I'm rather intelligent and a talented writer and musician. This tells me that my perceptions will almost always be wrong, and I can't make a conclusion without talking to a person first hand. I also notice that this will help my topic by providing physical generalizations to juxtapose to the nerd stereotype, thus providing and interesting way to present each person I talk to.

So I give up on formatting for this blog. Without a computer, it's a huge mess and is more of a headache than it's worth. So I'll just bore you with normal fonts and colors. I chose tattoo c. This person is Billy Paul Ron. Billy's only pastime is playing with his collection of action figures, but he can't take them out of the box or touch them because it would depreciate their value. So he sets them side by side and pretends to play with them. Billy is 34 years old and still lives at home with his mother. He often makes her cookies, but she never eats them because he doesn't understand how to follow the recipe. One time, she found a bit of his shoe and his dad's car keys in one of the cookies. The tattoo represents freedom to be awesome, something Billy has wanted to be for a very long time. The tattoo also represents Billy's favorite hobby. Spiderman is Billy's favorite hero. He almost took spiderman out of the box once, and there's a chocolate brownie stain on the box to prove it. No Memeology today, I can't paste pictures very well on my phone :'(

Post Hardcore

Post Hardcore is a genre of music. It developed from hardcore punk, or the cousin of punk rock. The genre is said to have started in the 1980's thanks to influences by heavier bands like Metallica, and a noise rock "pioneers" Sonic Youth.  However, Post Hardcore really gained ground as a real genre in the 2000's with various Nu Metal bands that brought the idea of metal back to society. Post Hardcore bands often consist of 4-5 members. A lead guitarist, rhythm guitar (which often doubles as the singer/screamer), bass guitarist, drummer, and sometimes an additional singer or screamer. 

Essentially, Post Hardcore can be described as:

People call it emo, people think it sucks. Really doesn't bother me, because as much as people hate it, it's the by far the best genre that has ever emerged. I say this not only because of my personal attachment to the genre, but for many more reasons. No other genre is as emotionally drive as Post Hardcore (thus why it's earned the name emo.) It discusses the everyday problems, and focuses on the lamentation of the self when presented with these problems. However, not ever song is created in the same format.

Alesana, a member of the Post Hardcore genre, addresses the problems quite clearly, but they do so in a very unique way. Alesana attempts to tell a story in each song, and in each album. They've written songs and albums based on old Greek Myths, Edgar Allen Poe poems, and stories they themselves have written. No single song is ever "just there" without  purpose, which is what makes their music so special. 

Additionally, the music is more melodic than any other genre. So many genre's use the ABABCBB Song making pattern, and while this definitely does have a presence in Post Hardcore, it is used much less than in any other genre. 

To me, the details of Post Hardcore bring an understanding of the human emotion over the past few decades. The complex rhythms create an interesting texture to the music that also alludes to the real life references of chaos in everyday life. Screaming serves also as an emotional texture, and a link to the helplessness that an individual feels just by being alive. I mean, who hasn't at one pointed just wanted to SCREAM at the top of their lungs about something that's been driving them crazy? 

The Post Hardcore movement to me, has brought out the sensitive and compassionate. You may question this, but I feel quite safe in expressing my thoughts on musical stereotypes.

Rap Music -> Harbors more douche bags and assholes than any other genre

Country -> Generally nice, family oriented, yet a little southern-ly (often lacking in high levels intelligence)

Pop -> Conformists, like to party and have no appreciation for what art is

Heavy Metal -> Sometimes caring, but most often just the people that don't know what to think about things, kind of just there for the ride

Post Hardcore -> Caring, Compassionate, Wounded individuals, understand art, question reality, argue with meta's, differ in mindset

These are just generalizations, not always true, but quite often, they come very close.

    Topic One: A Study of Stereotypes in College Students and the truth behind them.

- I would explore the common stereotypes of types of people in high school (nerds, jocks, etc, etc) and examine how there stereotypes have held true through to college, or if they ever truly existed in the first place. This is relevant to me because I found that in high school, I never was able to fit into a stereotype nicely, thus I find myself wondering if it's because the stereotypes we as people have grown to embrace as a populous, simply don't exist. 

       Topic Two: A Study of the Progressive Moral and Character Attributes of a Group of Individuals while Engaged in a Semester long Video Game Project. 

- In this, I would explore the progressive moods and attitudes of my peers as we spend months in close quarters, working hand in hand on a physically and mentally challenging project as we attempt to create our own Video Game. This is relevant to me because I am not only part of the project, but the project leader and it is my job to know how people are feeling during the project. I'm curious to explore this topic as I find myself wondering how moods and attitudes will actually change against a control of how you see attitudes change against so called "Reality TV."

At first I wanted to do Topic Two, but after writing the explanation for both, I feel that Topic One might be FAR more interesting to write about. 

On a side note, each post now will have a MEME at the end. Gives you something to look forward to. I will call this new section...

I came to COLUMBIA because I wanted to go into game design, I love chicago, arts school means no math (or at least very little

I feel most comfortable expressing myself in...uh...Music, Writing, Poetry, Video Editing? OH, and Photography, but I don't have a decent camera :\

From this course? Idk what I want from this course, I guess I could say that I want to get better at writing, but I'm highly skeptical any class will help me at this point, I was well past the writing abilities of Writing and Rhetoric 1...in fact, I felt myself losing IQ in that class...  I guess I'm just here because it's required, either way I'll get my work done, it's not part of my morals to just "not care" about class...

*As a side note, that's not meant to sound over confident in myself, however, if I have room to brag about my talents in any class, Writing is about the only one...see above picture of "LOL" face...

I guess my only fear is that I don't know anyone in that class? versus all my other classes where I know most of the people...
